Leotek – a true LED pioneer
Established in 1992, Leotek is a recognised leader in developing high performance and optically advanced LED luminaires for road and area lighting. The company’s origins lie in traffic/transit signalling technologies and their early adoption and cultivation of LED technologies gave them a strong technical grounding when the company entered the road lighting sector.
A strong commercial presence was established in 1997 amongst other technology pioneers in the Silicon Valley region of California, until strong demand necessitated a move to a larger facility in 2010. Further rapid growth has seen the team move yet again in mid-2013 to an even larger facility, while international developments have seen Leotek become a truly global company. Leotek is now the second largest LED streetlight supplier in the USA with approximately 30% market share and over 300,000 luminaires supplied (as of 2014).
Leotek was acquired in 2007 by multi-national technology giant Lite-On, whose considerable scale (approximately $6-billion US turnover) has strengthened Leotek’s corporate resources and stability. It has also allowed Leotek to integrate breakthrough technology from other divisions within the Lite-On Group, which have expertise in power supply, LED/opto-electronics and consumer electronics components.
